Telkom to change its tender for a partner in providing a possible video-on-demand (VOD) service.

Telkom which is looking to start providing some form of a video-on-demand (VOD) service to customers in South Africa following its failed attempt through Telkom Media to start a video satellite pay-TV service, has retracted and will be changing its tender for a partner to provide a possible VOD service.

In October 2013 the SABC and Telkom signed a multimillion rand deal under which Telkom will get access to SABC content, will see Telkom bring the the SABC's content to South African viewers on mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and cellphones, and under which the SABC and Telkom will jointly try and acquire expensive sport broadcasting rights.

Telkom issued a tender for a partner to provide VOD service, but has retracted that tender which will now be amended. Telkom says it wants to bring a "ultimate connected home experience to South Africans" and wants to start delivering this service "to our customers as soon as possible".
