BREAKING. MultiChoice extends ANN7 beyond South Africa's borders for the first time today as the 24-hour TV news channel enters Africa.

You're reading it here first.

The South African 24-hour TV news channel ANN7 (DStv 405) is jumping and extending its footprint beyond just South Africa's borders today, as MultiChoice is opening up the Infinity Media run news channel to several countries across Southern Africa on its DStv pay-TV platform.

The ANN7 signal was activated today in Southern Africa on the IS20 satellite. That footprint covers the following countries - Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Swaziland and Lesotho.

Those countries which are already receiving the SABC News (DStv 404) 24-hour TV news channel and eNCA (Dstv 403), will now also get ANN7 eight months after the news channel had its shaky launch in August 2013.

MultiChoice tells TV with Thinus that ANN7 will add to the variety of news channels that Southern African subscribers are able to receive, and that there is quite a lot of interest in the rest of Southern Africa on what is happening in South Africa.

ANN7 does not have, and doesn't plan for now, to open any African based news bureaus in the foreseeable future.
