Special Investigating Unit (SIU) finds rampant corruption, and irregular expenditure at the SABC of more than R275 million.

More facts from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report, presented on Tuesday in parliament revealed the further extent of the rampant corruption and fruitless and wasteful expenditure of millions of rands at the SABC.

The SIU report presented to parliament's portfolio committee on communications, is a follow-up to the report presented for the first time last year.

The SIU report is the result of an investigation of allegation of corruption and maladministration at the beleguered SABC from 2005 to 2009.

The SIU uncovered fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R9.6 million at the SABC and irregular expenditure of more than R275 million between September 2006 and March 2008.

The SIU report follows after a scathing and independent skills audit report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) conducted at the SABC and which found SABC staff without proper qualifications, personnel files and lacking in critical thinking.

On Monday there was also the damning final report released by South Africa's Public Protector finding widespread maladministration, abuse of power and fraud at the SABC and that the broadcaster acting chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng lied about having a matric certificate and made up symbols.

The matricless Hlaudi Motsoeneng is also being fingered in the Public Protector's report for his ballooning salary to R2,4 million and is implicated in irregular termination and appointment of SABC staff.
