BREAKING. Kamini Pather wins 2nd season of MasterChef South Africa on M-Net; a 3rd season of the reality competition basically guaranteed.

Kamini Pather (29), a food blogger from Cape Town was announced the winner of MasterChef South Africa's second season on M-Net on Wednesday evening as a third season for the local format reality show is practically guaranteed.

Although the premium South African pay-TV broadcaster remained coy when asked about a possible third season for foodie hit, it's a practical certainty that MasterChef South Africa will see a third season - buoyed by consistent strong ratings, positive viewer response and sustained critical buzz.

With strong viewership which in several weeks actually surpassed the viewership figures of M-Net's other longtime hit Idols, MasterChef South Africa in its second season - which also saw a much bigger episode order - has now solidified its place as a ratings winner.

MasterChef South Africa now joins the M-Net schedule as stalwart local programming capable of luring audience and getting traction from buzz similar to Carte Blanche and Idols after a wobbly first season marred by negative publicity surrounding the prize.

In the 90 minute special shown on Wednesday evening but recorded at the beginning of 2013, viewers saw Kamini Pather and Leandri van der Wat compete in three final cooking challenges in the Emmy worthy lit kitchen at the Nederburg wine estate.

The confident looking and focused Kamini Pather was announced the winner who said she wants to remain in the food world but combine it with media.
