On Digital Media (ODM) which has applied for a second time to start broadcasting sex channels on its struggling TopTV pay-TV platform as a separate porn bouquet, is dragging competitor MultiChoice's name into its somewhat shoddy application for authorisation for the channels with some not-quite-facts references and typo's.
TopTV, currently under business rescue according to the Companies Act, wants to launch the three TV channels - Playboy TV, Desire TV and Private Spice - as a separate bouquet in South Africa as soon as possible to give it "a fighting chance of survival".
The titillating trio of channels are provided to TopTV by Playboy TV UK / Benelux Limited in England and uplinked through SES Platform Services in Munich, Germany to South Africa.
Whoever typed it, checked all the facts or was responsible for the due diligence or proofreading of TopTV final application document to South Africa's broadcasting regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa), doesn't quite get it right and maybe doesn't actually watch television or this specific show.
Take this bit for instance, where TopTV reflects on the heritage of Playboy and then drags DStv into its porn bid document:
"Girls of the Mansion the television series that focuses on the lives of Playboy's founder Hugh Hefner's girlfriends who lives with him at the Playboy mansion is the top rated DSTV series in South Africa and is watched primarily by Females."
Girls of the Mansion? There's never been such a show. There have been Girls of the Playboy Mansion, but that was seen in South Africa as The Girls Next Door.
And The Girls Next Door top rated on DStv? A bit of a stretch, just like Kendra's birth marks after baby Hank, folks.
Strange as well to see something regarding television programming written in present tense from a TV company about an on-air programme which ended in 2010 already.
Maybe its just an unintentional little mistake just like the all caps for DSTV and Females which is probably just a little flourish to add some extra pizzazz to the porn channels application?
