CNBC Africa adds Mozambique as its latest new news bureau as part of a partnership between ANB Group and Televisão de Moçambique.

African Business News (ABN) - the owner of the business news channel CNBC Africa (DStv 410) - has just added Mozambique to its African bureau network, bringing the tally of network bureaux to 6.

Neither ABN nor CNBC Africa made a statement or issued a press release.

CNBC Africa's managing director Gary Alfonso who has since left the once-hot TV channel and followed anchor Lerato Mbele out the door at the TV channel, still said in January that CNBC Africa plans to open news bureaus this year in Mozambique, Zambia, Ghana and Botswana.

CNBC Africa wants a news presence and bureaux in more than 20 African countries by 2014.

Sid Wahi, the vice president for business development for the ABN Group did an interview with CNBC Africa's Closing Bell Africa, telling anchor Samantha Loring that the bureau is a partnership between the ABN Group and Mozambique's state broadcaster, Televisão de Moçambique. "This partnership is just one of the steps to achieve our longterm goals," he said.

"CNBC Africa will celebrate 5 years in Africa in June and what we've seen over the last couple of years is a lot of doubt in the minds of business and government that CNBC Africa would be able to deliver. And after 5 strong years of delivering business news credibly and accurately, I think we've really set a place for ourselves at the table here," said Sid Wahi.

"This is the 4th such partnership we have engaged in the past 12 months having already launched in Namibia, Zambia and Gabon. The response has been exceedingly positive."

He said that "as soon as there is breaking news here to be covered we will be here."
