SABC wants to spend R288,9 million over the next 3 years on its envisioned News24 TV channel.

The SABC plans to spend R288,9 million over the next 3 years on establishing and running the South African public broadcaster's new 24 hour news channel called News24 at the moment and which is envisioned to replace SABC News International.

The SABC envisions spending R68,3 million on the News24 channel in the 2011/2012 financial year, rising to R106,3 million in 2012/2013. The spending on News24 will increase further in 2013/2014 to R114,2 million according to the Monitoring Task Team's (MTT) report that this oversight body over the SABC presented to parliament on Tuesday.

The sport TV channel the SABC wants to have - most likely called SABC Sport - will cost R311,7 million to operate in 2012/2013, jumping to R521 million in 2013/2014. This channel will be on of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) channel the SABC wants to run in South Africa's switchover from analogue to digital television, a process known as digital migration.
