BREAKING. Melody Scott Thomas GONE from The Young and the Restless as struggling American soap industry faces big change.
Soap actress Melody Scott Thomas - the best liked actress in America's number one soap viewership wise The Young and the Restless (weekdays, e.tv, 16:40) - is gone as the struggling and dying soap genre is going through tumultuous change in America.
Melody Scott Thomas's departure from the daytime soap where she's played Nikki Newman for decades is sending shockwaves through the soap industry reeling from tumultuous change where new shocking downsizing decisions by production executives are now leaving actors and fans angry and distraught on basically a daily basis. ''All I can say is what I know,'' said Melody Scott Thomas who've been a part of The Young and the Restless since 1979. ''My last tape date was 4/28, aired last Friday and I have received no scripts since.Y&R has not contacted me.''
If it's about money and a pay cut - as many soap actors have been forced to endure the past few years, Melody Scott Thomas said on Twitter: ''I've taken as many, if not more than my share of pay cuts.''
Soap fans are still in shock about the news about the cancellation of All My Children (weekdays, SABC3, 09:30) within a few months in America. Melody Scott Thomas's departure from The Young and the Restless comes days after Louise Sorel from Days of Our Lives (weekdays, SABC3, 16:30; repeat weekdays SABC2, 13:30) told TV Guide she's been fired from that soap in a scathing interview.
Louise Sorel who've played Vivian blatantly bashed the soap, talked about ''upheaval'' behind the scenes and gave away that Drake Hogenstyn [John Black] and Deidre Hall [Marlena] are returning to Days of Our Lives, suggesting that she's probably ''a financial trading card'' although she's been ''making almost nothing''. She said she'd never return, even if asked. ''I would never go back to Days after this.''
