BREAKING. DVB-T2 to be used as South Africa's broadcasting standard for digital terrestrial television (DTT).

DVB-T2 will finally be announced as the South African government's standard for digital terrestrial television (DTT) in South Africa by the end of the month, ending major uncertainty regarding the country's digital migration process.

The government unsettled the South African broadcasting industry when it wanted to backback on its 2006 decision with the South African TV industry that the European-based digital video broadcasting standard DVB-T will be used, and suddenly courted Brazilian lobby groups who wanted the government to switch to the ISDB-Tb standard. The South African TV industry has already invested roughly R400 million in DVB-T, including DVB-T and DVB-T2 trials. DVB-T and the upgradeable DVB-T2 are the most widely adopted DTT standard in the world and is also the standard agreed to at the end of last year by the SADC region.
