ESPN research into 3D television watching finds that TV viewers feel a stronger sense of presence; enjoy it more than HD.

ESPN (DStv 230) that ran the ESPN 3D channel in America during the 2010 Fifa World Cup in June and July has send me some interesting 3D viewer research results into a comprehensive 3D study it conducted during the broadcast of this channel.

The results? TV viewers enjoy watching shows in 3D even more than high definition (HD). ''Fans are comfortable with the medium,'' says ESPN. Other findings from the research carried out at the Disney Media & Ad Lab in Texas found that viewers felt ''a stronger sense of presence'' with 3D shows as well as ''a higher level of viewer enjoyment''.

The study also found that there were no adverse effects on depth perception from watching 3D television (stereopsis). According to ESPN, ''it appeared that there's an acclimation effect whereby participants adjust to 3D viewing over time under normal use''.
