BREAKING. Support Public Broadcasting worried about ''glaring lack of leadership'' by SABC chairperson dr Ben Ngubane.

The Support Public Broadcasting Coalition (SOS) public pressure group says in a just-issued press release that its concerned about ''the glaring lack of corporate governance, the lack of leadership and the dereliction of duty by the chairperson of the SABC board, dr Ben Ngubane'' and calls for dr Ben Ngubane to be ''disciplined'' because if his failure.

The SOS statement chastising the obviously incompetent SABC chairperson, follows on the heels of the SABC trade union Bemawu also calling for the immediate removal of dr Ben Ngubane ''because of his inability to perform as chairperson of the SABC board''.

The SOS says ''its alarming to hear that the SABC chairperson dr Ben Ngubane has not signed the delegation of authority document to make Robin Nicholson the new acting group CEO of the SABC. In effect the SABC is now operating illegally. The chairperson of the SABC board needs to take immediate responsibility for this major corporate governance breach''.

''The SOS Coalition believes that the problems with the SABC board and oversight structures need to be urgently examined and remedied,'' says the pressure group that represents a massive number of representatives from the South African TV industry. ''The chairperson of the SABC board dr Ben Ngubane needs to be disciplined in terms of his failure to sign the delegation of authority document to make Robin Nicholson the SABC's acting group CEO.''

''The SOS believes that moving forward it is critical that the SABC operates scrupulously within the framework of the law. Further, SOS believes it will be difficult to find new SABC board members with the necessary integrity, expertise and experience to serve on this most important of public boards if the governance - and oversight structures - do not recommit themselves to these basic principles of good corporate governance.''
