BREAKING. SuperSport considering a second high definition (HD) TV channel on DStv to be used for 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer ''spill-over'' programming.

You're reading it here first.

I can exclusively reveal that SuperSport is talking about starting a second high definition (HD) TV channel on DStv for the duration of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.

I hear that SuperSport - already operating the SuperSport HD channel (DStv 171) on DStv, is mulling a second HD sport channel - although it would only be a temporary measure. ''If it happens it would just be to accomodate all the spill-over sport, soccer and other sport footage for which there simply isn't space,'' a source told me earlier in the week.

''There is just to much sport - especially over weekends - that SuperSport would love to show viewers. During the 2010 World Cup there will be even more. The second HD channel will be used for 'spill-over' sport programming - the sport stuff that SuperSport can't fit onto SuperSport HD.''
