TOLDYA. More about what happened with League of Glory's balls up.
Last Thursday I broke the news exclusively first RIGHT HERE about the balls up with M-Net's new soccer drama League of Glory having to reshoot certain scenes. Reshoots are necessary and is delaying the debut of League of GLory by a week because the production used a 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer ball on certain on-air scenes it doesn't have the licence to use.
My newspaper story ran yesterday already but a news agency picked it up and the rest of the newspapers are splashing about it today. League of Glory with Charlie Keegan, Susan Danford, singer Verity Price and Denise Newman, largely shot in Stellenbosch and produced by Waterfront Productions, will now only start on Wednesday, 5 May at 19:30 and no longer next Wednesday. ''An array of experts were brought on board in order to make the football playing scenes in League of Glory as accurate and professional looking as possible for viewers,'' says M-Net. ''Throughout the shooting of League of Glory generic soccer balls were used, with the exception of one day when the football coaching expert brought along an official FIFA soccer ball, which was used in some of the takes.''
''M-Net and Waterfront Productions realized that showing scenes with the official FIFA soccer ball would be against regulations and as such, had to reshoot for one day,'' says the broadcaster. ''The rest of League of Glory, and football references within, adhere to the regulations and guidelines set forward by FIFA.''
