Safta awards: John Vlismas horribly horrendous as host!

How pathetic, unprepared, horrible, condescending, totally lame, under-dressed, inappropriate, uninformed and not-funny was John Vlismas as the host of the 4th South African Film and Television Awards on Saturday?

During the disastrously boring ceremony of several hours, the cringe-inducing John Vlismas added to the perceived amateur quality of the broadcast by stumbling through the ceremony several times during the night like an insecure ringmaster with a lame travelling circus act. He seemed completely clueless as to what was going on several times during the evening (whether due to production problems behind the scenes or simply being unprepared). With faux facial expressions mimicking shock and surprise - and at times indicating he had no clue - John Vlismas even kept using the word ''annual" (which the Saftas are/were not). He blatantly admitted to struggling with the correct pronunciation of names (conveniently forgetting he's getting paid to get it right).

Turning the Saftas - already battling for credibility - into a seemingly lame stand-up act, John Vlismas - in what seemed like a ''My Little Troll''-mohawk inspired look for the evening that was completely out of place for an event such as the Saftas - simply didn't seem in control of the show. He didn't seem to have the presenter gravitas to steer the 4th Saftas graciously through the night - that most pivotal of reasons why there's a host for award ceremonies such as these in the first place.

Yes John Vlismas. Like your expression in the image below, South African viewers are also asking: ''What WAS that?''
