National Geographic says its 'moving forward' with the halted 3rd season season of The Story of God after saying its own investigation has cleared Morgan Freeman.

National Geographic (DStv 181 / StarSat 220 / Cell C black 261) says the channel is "moving forward" with the abruptly halted The Story of God with Morgan Freeman that it renewed for a 3rd season in January this year only to  stop production after being forced to do an investigation into Morgan Freeman after several serious sexual misconduct allegations, but now saying its own investigation found nothing.

In May 8 people came forward and claimed that Morgan Freeman sexually harassed them and was involved in other inappropriate behaviour towards them.

"When we learned of recent allegations surrounding Morgan Freeman completely unrelated to our work with him, as a precaution we paused production on our new season in order to complete a thorough investigation led by our parent company Fox, executed through an independent investigator," says National Geographic in a statement.

"The results of this investigation revealed no incidents of concern during any of our work with Morgan Freeman."

"We have now made the decision to move forward with the production of season three of The Story of God. This series has expanded our understanding of religion and culture around the world and has touched many of our fans, and along with Morgan and the team at Revelations Entertainment, we look forward to resuming pre-production this September."

The third season of The Story of God that will be broadcast on National Geographic in 2019 in 172 countries and 43 languages, will once again see actor Morgan Freeman go on an international journey as he discovers the power of religion and how it touches all of our lives.

Morgan Freeman will travel to some of the world’s holiest sites and speak with religious leaders, scientists, historians and archaeologists to try to shed light on questions about the puzzle of the divine laws.

Each episode of the 3rd season of The Story of God will focus on a different topic about the divine to help shed light on the questions that inspired mankind.

Executive producers include Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary and James Younger of Revelations Entertainment.

“We are pleased to expand our partnership with Morgan, Lori, James and the entire Revelations Entertainment team on another season of The Story of God,” says Tim Pastore, National Geographic president of original programming and production.

Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman's new documentary series, The Story of God that was commissioned last year will start on the National Geographic Channel (DStv 181) in South Africa and Africa on Sunday 3 April at 20:05.

Besides being the presenter of The Story of God, Morgan Freeman is also the executive producer of the 6-part global TV series produced by Revelations Entertainment in which he travels the globe to explore different cultures and religions on a quest to uncover more about the meaning of life and what God means to different people.

Through The Story of God Morgan Freeman wants to understand more about how religion has evolved throughout the course of civilisation, and in turn how religion has shaped the evolution of society - looking at some remarkable similarities among different faiths.

"Over the past few months I've travelled to nearly 20 cities in 7 different countries on a personal journey to find answers to the big mysteries of faith," says Morgan Freeman.

"I've sung the call to prayer at a mosque in Cairo, taken meditation lessons from the Buddhist leader of the oldest line of reincarnating Lamas, discussed Galileo with the head of the Papal Academy of Sciences and explored the first instructions for the afterlife rendered in hieroglyphs inside the pyramids," says Morgan Freeman.

"In some places I found answers and others led to more questions. The constant through it all is that we're all looking to be part of something bigger than us. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that we certainly are," says Morgan Freeman.

Morgan Freeman visited Jerusalem's Wailing Wall, India's Bodhi Tree, Mayan temples in Guatemala and the pyramids of Egypt, and also travelled with archaeologists to places like the 7500 BC Neolithic settlement Çatalhöyük in Turkey.

"As we put this series together, we sought answers to some of mankind's biggest questions, but in the end what surprised us most was to find how personal those answers were for each of us," says Lori McCreary, co-executive producer.

"We hope The Story of God will open an interfaith dialogue about ideas and values that we all share, not that we disagree on."

Each episode of The Story of God with Morgan Freeman is centred on a different big question about the divine.

Creation – Are there similarities among the religious creation stories from around the world? How do they compare with the scientific theory of the creation of the cosmos and the dawn of civilisation?

Who Is God? – How has the perception of God evolved over human history? Is God just an idea, and if so, can we find evidence of a divine presence in our brains?

Evil – What is the root of evil and how has our idea of it evolved over the millennia? Is the devil real? The birth of religion may be inextricably tied to the need to control evil.

Miracles – Are miracles real? For many believers, miracles are the foundation of their faith. Others regard miracles as merely unlikely events on which our brains impose divine meaning. Belief in miracles, however we define them, could be what gives us hope and drives us to turn possibility into reality.

End of Days – Violent upheaval and fiery judgment fill popular imagination, but was the lore of apocalypse born out of the strife that plagued the Middle East two millennia ago? The true religious meaning of the apocalypse may not be a global war, but an inner revelation.

Resurrection – How have beliefs in the afterlife developed, and how has our reaction to the afterlife changed the way we live this life? Now that science is making such rapid advances, we may soon be confronted with digital resurrection. What will that do to our beliefs?

National Geographic Channel goes looking for God in new series, The Story of God, with Morgan Freeman, set for global broadcast in 2016.

The National Geographic Channel (DStv 181) is launching a search for God with a new series, The Story of God, set to broadcast globally on the channel in 2016 with presenter Morgan Freeman.

Morgan Freeman, who also presented Discovery Networks' scientific exploration series Through the Wormhole, will go on a global exploration, looking at mankind's quest to find and understand God.

"Man's relationship to God is the most important question in the history of humanity," says Morgan Freeman. "This ambitious expedition through the ages and around the globe seeks to understand how faith has shaped our lives, no matter what religion or belief."

The Story of God will be produced by Revelations Entertainment with James Younger, Lori McCreary and Morgan Freeman all as executive producers.

According to National Geographic Channel, Morgan Freeman will "embark on an epic exploration and intimate reflection on God, immersing himself in religious experiences and rituals all around the world, as well as becoming a test subject in scientific labs to examine how the frontiers of neuroscience and cosmology are intersecting the traditional domain of religion".

The Story of God will be shown in 171 countries and territories in 2016 on the National Geographic Channel.

Each episode of The Story of God will centre around one big question about the divine, from the mystery of creation, to the true power of miracles, to the promise of resurrection.

"These timeless and universal mysteries impact people from every faith," says the National Geographic Channel.

Morgan Freeman will be on the ground at some of humanity's greatest religious sites.

He will visit Jerusalem's Wailing Wall, the Vatican, India's Bodhi Tree, abandoned Mayan temples in the Guatemalan jungle and the Lakewood megachurch in Texas.

He will also travel with archaeologists to uncover some of the long-lost religions like the 10 000 year old ruins at Gobekli Tepe in Turkey and the ancient Celtic monument at Stonehenge.

"The Story of God is one of the greatest mysteries and most important ideas in the world," says Morgan Freeman. "For me, this is a personal and enduring quest to understand the divine."
