SuperSport to celebrate South Africa's World Cup win in Paris in 2007 with rebroadcast of three of the tournament's matches.

SuperSport will celebrate the decade-old anniversary of South Africa's Rugby World Cup win in Paris in 2007 on Friday with a rebroadcast of 3 matches from this tournament.

Exactly 10 years to the day since the Springboks won the Rugby Wold Cup in Paris, SuperSport will rebroadcast 3 of the matches, including the final, on Friday 20 October on the SuperSport 2 channel on MultiChoice's DStv.

The memorable final against England will be broadcast on Friday at 8:40 in the morning and again at 21:30 on Friday night on SuperSport 2.

The quarterfinal match against Fiji will be broadcast at 5:00 on Friday morning, followed at 6:50 by a rebroadcast of the semi-final between South Africa and Argentina.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao live fight on SuperSport on DStv delayed due to pay-TV problems across America.

The highly anticipated Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao championship which MultiChoice and SuperSport told DStv subscribers would be broadcast live in South Africa was suddenly delayed due to massive pay-TV problems across America on Saturday when pay-per-view (PPV) orders didn't go through and pay-TV subscribers became vocal, and angry, over a paid for service they couldn't access.

The start of Saturday's Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao championship fight set for Saturday night in the United States and on Sunday morning South African time and billed as "The Fight of the Century", was unexpectedly delayed.

It happened after several pay-TV operators in America had massive trouble to process the PPV orders from customers, many who paid as much as $100 (R1191) to watch the fight.

It means that the viewing of the fight scheduled for SuperSport 2 (DStv 202) on DStv in South Africa and across the rest of the African continent was also delayed.

In America the problem continued for hours as widespread technical difficulties caused anger across the United States from New York to Los Angeles and everywhere in between.

Highlights of the boxing match is being repeated today (Sunday) on SuperSport 5 (DStv 205) and the content has also been placed on MultiChoice's on-demand service, DStv Catch Up.

The on-screen corner logo South African viewers saw and will see on the DStv Catch Up match, "HBO | Showtime | PPV " is what caused the problem and the delay in America.

"We asked consumers for patience with the operators as they deal with overwhelming amount of orders," said Showtime in a statement.

HBO said "There are more orders tonight than any night in PPV history. Fans should just be patient and distributors will process their orders".

Angry pay-TV viewers in America flooded their satellite-TV and cable TV operators after they were unable to get the fight, with thousands saying on social media that they will be changing service providers due to the unresponsiveness and lack of customer service from the companies.

The companies blamed the problems on the enormous volume of pay-per-view orders for the fight which they were not able to process fast enough.

SuperSport says its launching a '24-hour cricket channel' on DStv - meanwhile its only broadcasting cricket on an existing DStv channel.

SuperSport says it is launching a "24-hour cricket channel on Sunday" on MultiChoice's DStv - in reality its the existing SuperSport 2 (DStv 202) channel on DStv which will just be broadcasting cricket. Pffff.

SuperSport isn't launching a cricket TV channel but will be using SuperSport 2 for the next five months to broadcast cricket - although the disingenuous announcement wants to make as if MultiChoice is getting a new cricket TV channel.

The cricket which will be shown on the existing SuperSport channel on DStv over the next few months include major cricket tours and events like the five-match India Sri Lanka ODI series (which wouldn't be even on SuperSport 2 but on the SuperSport 5 channel on DStv) and South Africa's tour of Australia for three T20 and 5 ODI's.

SuperSport will also broadcast the Ram Slam in November and early December on SuperSport 2.

The existing SuperSport 2 TV channel on DStv will also broadcast the West Indies tour of South Africa which includes three Tests, three T20's and 5 ODI's.

Then there's also India's tour of Australia, New Zealand playing Sri Lanka in ODI's and tests and the Cricket World Cup from Australia and New Zealand.

An 18-part Hooked on Cricket series will be shown which features some of the greatest cricketers of the past two decades sharing their views on the game,

The cricket commentary team will include Graeme Smith, Shaun Pollock, HD Ackerman, Mike Haysman, Mark Boucher, Michael Holding, Ian Bishop, Mpumelelo Mbangwa and Kepler Wessels.

I told you this was coming. More than a month ago I studied and worked through new market research regarding South African TV audiences - especially regarding the changing profile of the DStv subscriber . Now Oracle Airtime Sales (OATS), the advertising sales arm of MultiChoice, is ready to reveal that Mzansi Magic (DStv 107), Africa Magic (DStv 114) and Vuzu (DStv 123) will show double digit audience growth in 100 000's from February, as well as massive growth for these TV channels in daily viewership.

''DStv Compact based channels such as Africa Magic, Mzansi Magic and Vuzu will show double digit audience growth in 100 000's and positive growth in DStv ratings,'' says Brenda Wortley, head of research and strategy at OATS in a press statement.

Interestingly, the viewership of M-Net (DStv 101), kykNET (DStv 111), SuperSport 1 (DStv 201) and SuperSport 2 (DStv 202) - although stable - are going to be heading south when it becomes official in February. ''We expect the premium only channels such as M-Net, kykNET, SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 2 to show relatively stable audiences in 100 000's but to reflect a drop in DStv ratings of about 8 to 10%,'' says Brenda Wortley.

Of course M-Net, kykNET, SuperSport 1 and SuperSport 2 are only available to DStv Premium subscribers - subscribers who obviously came under increased economic pressure in 2010 and decided to eliminate or downgrade their pay TV expense.
