TV NEWS ROUND-UP. Today's interesting TV reports and articles to read - 25 February 2021.

TALKERS TRYING. Ricki Lake, Jeff Probst joins the crowded talk show field as Wendy Williams shows her bigger set.

Two new American talk shows started on Monday in the United States by personalities South African viewers know well - Ricki Lake with The Ricki Lake Show, and Jeff Probst with The Jeff Probst Show.

South Africans saw Ricki Lake (who also visited South Africa a few years ago) on e.tv when the free-to-air commercial channel carried Ricki Lake until its conclusion. Now Ricki Lake is trying to make a comeback attempt with a new version of her talk show.

Jeff Probst meanwhile is well known as the host of Survivor. Both of them are joining the already crowded field of American talk shows, and it will be interesting to see whether one or either could survive.

South African viewers can already see Ellen (M-Net Series) which kicked off its 10th season on Monday in America, Dr. Phil (SABC2) which started its 11th season, Dr. Oz (SABC3) which started its 4th year,  Jerry Springer (M-Net Series) which started its 22nd season, The Talk (M-Net) which started its 3rd season, and Wendy Williams (BET) which just started its 4th season.

As I've reported Wendy Williams which also returned for a new season (South Africans get to see the same episode shown in America on the same day here op TopTV's BET) has a new studio and an enhanced set.

"Look," said Wendy Williams as she addressed her studio audience on the first new episode, "we've got a brand-new address; a brand-new studio. It's bigger, it's better - can you see all the room that we have? Look! Look at my studio audience. You guys have room to move. And the aisles are nice and wide."

GO RICKI. For Ricki Lake its all about friendship in the new promo for her attempt at a Ricki Lake talk show comeback.

Ricki Lake was a weekday staple as TV talk show host with The Ricki Lake Show seen on e.tv in South Africa. She ended her show in 2004 but now she's attempting a talk show comeback in September in America as an older, wiser - but still chatty - girlfriend.

In a brand-new promo for The Ricki Lake Show, the talk show host hoping on a comeback is clearly positioning her new show around her being a friend and "friendship".
