BLAME IT ON TRASH. Blame It On Fame on e.tv with twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina cancelled after 2 seasons.
The vacuous reality show Blame It On Fame on e.tv with the twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina has been cancelled after two seasons.
TVSA first reported the news about Blame It On Fame's cancellation and I can confirm that the show is no more, with e.tv telling me that "Blame It On Fame will not be coming back".
Whereas the sparkly and extremely well-produced first season of Blame It On Fame in September 2011 was produced by the professional Rapid Blue production company, twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina suddenly upped and left.
The second season and badly produced season of Blame It On Fame was suddenly done by Black Brain Pictures where the twins also suddenly added "executive producers" titles, echoeing the show's title.
The local TV biz raised eyebrows when the twins' show suddenly switched production companies from Rapid Blue to Black Brain Pictures, and talked about the sharp and very visual difference in production values of Blame It On Fame from the first season to the second.
e.tv's manager of local productions Keshni Rajoo tells TV with Thinus that the channel is "constantly reviewing its content strategy to reflect its audience needs and requests".
"The celebrity format has proved to be very popular one.tv, and our audience wanted to see more celebs. In line with this, the channel decided to take on other celebrity reality shows to showcase different celebrities," says Keshni Rajoo.

BREAKING. Blame it on Fame set to return to e.tv for a 2nd season in 2012 as twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina click with viewers.
You're reading it here first.
I can exclusively first break the news that Blame it on Fame, the sparkly new local reality show with two's-a-crowd twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina will be back on e.tv for a second season in 2012.
Blame it on Fame which started in September on e.tv and which concluded its first season on the red letter broadcaster yesterday has been renewed for a second season which viewers will hopefully see in 2012. Blame it on Fame is produced by Rapid Blue.
''Yes, we are currently engaged in planning for another season with the Twins,'' Monde Twala, e.tv's channel head tells TV with Thinus.
''South Africa fell in love with the Twins in the first season and the target market wants more. Blame it on Fame worked across all age groups, gender and demographics,'' he says. ''The classy yet simple production style made easy viewing for all.''
''The next season will be upping the pace and unveiling new twists and turns within their day to day challenges. The channel is pleased with the show and its appeal to showcase real up and coming celebrity lives,'' says Monde Twala.

REVIEW. Blame it on Fame with the 'twinz' Hlelo and Ntando Masina an enjoyable, watchable, look-at-us reality show.
As far as bubblegum television goes, Blame it on Fame - the new e.tv reality show with cameras trailing claim-to-fame ''twinz'' starlets Hlelo and Ntando Masina on Mondays at 20:30 - is an enjoyable, watchable, and well post-production produced show.
Blame it on Fame produced by Rapid Blue with Kee-Leen Irvine and Duncan Irvine as executive producers, proves that it's not necessary to go to Hollywood (cough, cough) to successfully tap into the propagated fantasy zeitgeist of aspirational showbiz-onality right here in South Africa and Johannesburg's glam-infused social circles.
Blame it on Fame has a done-it-right intro theme. The show also very successfully and very deftly managed to do, and then merge, what the biz calls ''interviews'' - the bits where reality stars appear to talk to camera to explain, extrapolate and move the narrative of an episode forward - but are in fact asked questions by producers of certain filmed events. The post drop-in backdrop, the quite animate twins, and the styling of lux couture make the talk-to-camera interview sections look polished, well-done and of a high-gloss production quality.
Hlelo Masina jokingly throwing her hands up in the air as she interviews in the first episode, saying ''We are the twins and welcome to our reality show'' - then go ''This is soo cheesy!'' Brief self-referential moments like these make the show endearing by showing that neither the twinz-stars not the producers are trying to make or pretend that Blame it on Fame is anything other than what it is: a please-look-at-us romp using the Masina girls' growing fame to film interesting events and be a fly on the wall for relational dynamics.
Somewhat detracting (because we're now conditioned to want our ''reality television'' shaped) is the real reality of a cold South African winter intruding into Blame it on Fame, clearly limiting outdoor scenes and a subtle reality check inside the reality show on the perceived fame-level of the girls: In the first episode they make the Mail & Guardian newspaper's list of 200 young South Africans but at the launch event of the special supplement, the newspaper's own editor has never actually met them.
Showing the real Masina family over a braai and the extremely upset and angry mom (cue hilarious, ominously ''shark-attack-imminent'' music) after Hlelo and Ntando Masina decided to get tattoos was dramatic, but clearly really real. The family scene setting also worked perfectly to introduce the various members who will, presumably, feature in some dramatic interactions in future episodes.
Narrow facial close-ups to capture even the smallest tinge of whatever expressions and feelings are emoted, seemingly non-sensical quotables by Hlelo and Ntando Masina as well as post-production added pregnant pauses before conversational answers during banter, reveal that the production team of Blame it on Fame has studied the overseas reality show paint-by-numbers genre very well to create this local TV copy that pass the grade.
''It's like you have a fruit bowl, says Ntando Masina, ''and theres always fruit inside. And all you keep doing is eating grapes. You're not going to know how good the pears are if you're always eating grapes.'' Blame it on Fame is likewise an enjoyable enough TV fruit to venture back into the reality television bowl for another taste.

FIRST LOOK. Will e.tv's new Blame it on Fame fail or fly? The 'twinz' Hlelo and Ntando Masina getting ready for their reality show.
Will they spread their wings and fly - giving e.tv what the channel desperately needs which is a big buzz-worthy show - or will they crash and burn like a similar, low-class, production-trash, reality show earlier this year I won't mention (okay, I will, Nonhle Takes Hollywood)?
The glam-twins (and heaven help us, ''twinz''...) Hlelo and Ntando Masina are ready for their own reality show debut in their new (oddly-enough negative-sounding) reality show Blame it on Fame starting on Monday 4 September at 20:30 on e.tv. Now the new key art from Blame it on Fame is available - and it looks way more playful, toned-down and tongue-in-cheek than boom!-sit-down's purple, over-the-top, overly-dramatic, high art key art that was much too much.

Insiders are now wondering whether Blame it on Fame will fail or fly. Can Hlelo and Ntando become reality stars, or will the 13 episode show produced by Rapid Blue become another sushi and champagne television disaster?
''It looks better than Nonhle's show,'' one insider who's seen the show already tells TV with Thinus. ''The production values are higher. I know that doesn't say much but the look is better,'' I'm told. Another source says ''there's more people. It has a lot of real people besides them [the twins] which makes it feel real.''
''e.tv is excited to launch another locall produced show,'' says Monde Twala, group head of e.tv channels division, using the words ''high-quality'' to describe Blame it on Fame. ''The channel is committed to delivering content that is fresh, innovative and relevant.''
''Rapid Blue is thrilled to be able to create this show for e.tv, and Hlelo and Ntando stood out as the absolutely perfect choice,'' says Kee-Leen Irvine, Rapid Blue executive producer, talking about ''tough choices'' facing the girls in the ''celebrity world''. ''I hope the viewers will be as delighted with the look-in to their lives as we've been''.

Hlelo and Ntando Masina Blame it on Fame as the cameras roll for their reality show starting in September on e.tv.
Hlelo and Ntando Masina are twins well known on the local meet-and-greet schlep circuit and their own new reality show Blame it on Fame will start on Monday 5 September at 21:00 on e.tv, reports Tonight.
The last time I told Hlelo and Ntando Masina (also just known as ''the twins'' by the in-crowd and who dabbles in DJ'ing on YFM) that they should actually have their own TV show, was at the DStv press year end function of 2009. Now, almost two years later its becoming an, uhm, reality.
Blame it on Fame is produced by Rapid Blue with 13 episodes. Cameras are following the twosome for the ''drama'' of their professional and personal lives.
Blame it on Fame also spells the end for the duo's appearance on SABC1's Mzansi Insider weekly magazine show. The twins made their last appearance on Mzansi Insider on 25 July.
