M-Net has commissioned a new drama series for Mzansi Magic (DStv 161), Mpondoland for Sunday nights that will start on Sunday 7 December at 20:00, starring Thembekile Komani and Tina Jaxa.
Mpondoland is M-Net's first isiMpondo language series.
M-Net was asked in a media query what production company filmed Mpondoland, where it was filmed and how many episodes there will be and when M-Net responds it will be added here.
M-Net says Origins Pictures are producing Mpondoland with Mmamitse Thibedi and Chumisa Cosa as executive producers, and will have 13 episodes.
Thembekile Komani portrays Mkhondwana, the reluctant heir of the KwaKhonjwayo village that grows dagga and "where the ground is holy, spirits communicate in water, and leadership is a sacred gift from the ancestors".
He is however making plans to leave, while Tina Jaxa plays a conniving pharmaceutical villain, Pele-Pele who arrives and demands that the marijuana plantations are sold to her. That forces Mkhondwana to protect his heritage.
Shirley Adonisi, M-Net director of local entertainment channels, says Mpondoland "can be seen as a celebration of African spirituality, heritage, and the power of community".
"Mkhondwana’s journey is one that will resonate, as it is about finding strength in vulnerability and honouring the past while facing the future. We are proud to bring this unique and culturally rich narrative to our viewers."
