The SABC is warning that it's busy reviewing the contracts of freelance on-air talent, with the implication that faces and voice seen and heard on the South African public broadcaster could disappear after the end of this month if or when their contracts are not renewed.
The veteran SAfm broadcaster Ashraf Garda revealed he is one of the people whose contract is not being renewed.
The SABC was asked on Friday afternoon why it's not renewing Ashraf Garda's contract.
Neo Momodu, SABC spokesperson told TVwithThinus that "the SABC affirms that it respects the confidentiality of contracts entered into with its service providers, employees and independent contractors. We will therefore not discuss matters of any nature related to our stakeholders publicly".
"Should there be line-up changes the SABC will communicate to its respective stakeholders accordingly."
The SABC in a statement warns that the South African public broadcaster is "in the process of reviewing contracts of freelance on-air talent in line with industry best practices."
"This is an annual process with takes place in February and March and is informed by various factors such as revenue, audience performance of the specific programmes or shows, return on investment, as well as the strategic direction of the various SABC platforms".
SABC Radio and SABC Sport freelance on-air talent have contracts that are expiring on 31 March.
The SABC says it "remains committed to ensuring that its platforms provide relevant and compelling content whilst ensuring growth in audiences and revenue".
