Netflix adds new Smart Downloads functionality that deletes a watched episode and downloads the next one automatically.

The global streaming giant Netflix has added a new functionality called Smart Downloads that will automatically delete episodes from devices that have already been watched, and download and replace them with the next episode in a series.

Netflix says Smart Downloads enables more binge-friendly watching, with the added feature that can be activated or disabled depending on the subscriber. Smart Downloads will automatically delete viewed episodes and replace them with a download of the next episode of the same same size, once a device is connected to WiFi.

Cameron Johnson, director of product innovation on Netflix's blog on Tuesday announced the new Netflix feature.

Today, we are excited to introduce Smart Downloads. Now, when you finish watching a downloaded episode, Smart Downloads will delete it, and then automatically download the next episode. You watch, we do the work," said Cameron Johnson.

Netflix's Smart Downloads function is initially available on Android phones and tablets.

"We know how annoying it can be to go through all your apps and delete files you no longer need; we also understand that when it comes to Netflix, the faster you can get to the next episode you want to watch, the better."

"Whether it is smart downloading or viewing a mobile preview, we realise the best part of Netflix is connecting with the stories you will love in an easier and more fun way."

"We also want to emphasize that giving consumers more control over their entertainment experience is at the heart of everything we do," wrote Cameron Johnson wrote in the post.
