ANN7 launches BizSense with Stevie Bacher as the news channel's latest attempt at a weekday business news show.

ANN7 (DStv 405) has started BizSense on 30 November as the 24-hour South African TV news channel's latest attempt at a weekday business news show.

BizSense with Stevie Bacher, known as Stevie B, is broadcast on ANN7 on weekdays at 20:00.

The addition of BizSense means a reduced ANN7 Prime, the Infinity Media run channel's flagship weekday show.

DStv subscribers can't set an actual recording on their PVRs and DStv Explora for BizSense.

Either ANN7 didn't notify MultiChoice of the change to its schedule or MultiChoice hasn't gotten to it or has nobody actually watching or checking the channel.

MultiChoice's DStv electronic programme guide (EPG) only lists ANN7 Prime from 19:00 to 21:00 during the whole of last week as well as this week with BizSense actually starting at 20:00 but not showing up as actually a separate programme on the ANN7 schedule grid.

BizSense will compete with  eNCA's (DStv 403) Moneyline on weekdays at 20:30 with Siki Mgabadeli; SABC News' (DStv 404) Business Report on weekdays at 18:00 with Francis Herd, as well as BusinessDay (DStv 412) and CNBC Africa (DStv 410) doing market-related commentary shows during South African prime time.

BizSense is ANN7's second attempt at a business news show after it launched Rands and Sense (very close to SABC2's longrunning weekly show entitled Rands with Sense) that was anchored by Nastassia Arendse and which was cancelled when the ANN7 reporter became one of many that left the channel.

"BizSense is not a show about the business of money, it is about the business of life," says Stevie Bacher. "It is not about the rich getting richer, it is about equipping people with tools to fight poverty."

According to ANN7 the aim of BizSense will be to "educate non-professionals on matters of the markets, investing, starting a business and entrepreneurship; simplified using expert guests and real-life stories".

Stevie Bacher was a JSE stockbroker and the business editor of radio station 702 before becoming business editor of Kaya FM, a position he has held for 8 years and where he presents Kaya Bizz on weekdays.

"A show of this caliber combined with Stevie B's expertise will undoubtedly set the bar high for ANN7," says Moegsien Williams, ANN7 editor-in-chief.

"We envision that the show will pull more viewers to our channel and drive development," says Moegsien Williams.
