ELECTIONS 2014: SABC News Election coverage plans on television for Election Day, Wednesday 7 May.

The SABC and SABC News (DStv 404) on Wednesday 7 May will broadcast live from the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) National Results Operations Centre at Hall J at the Pretoria Show grounds in Pretoria bringing viewers election coverage, news and results from 05:00 to midnight.

The SABC will cross over to around 100 places around South Africa for regional updates and reports and has outside broadcast (OB) vans and roving reporters stationed across the country.

SABC News will do continuous election news coverage and SABC2 will be the SABC's main election channel covering Wednesday's news. SABC2 will have election news and updates on Wednesday between 11:00 to 13:00.

An SABC studio has been set up at the National Results Operations Centre to provide real-time results and graphics to viewers, along with detailed analysis and commentary from a dedicated pool of commentators.

"We are going to be flexible, depending on the news. If we have breaking news, we will be able to just zoom in and broadcast breaking news," says Hlaudi Motsoeneng, the SABC's acting chief operating officer (COO).

"Our system are linked to IEC which is more exciting for SABC. Our graphics are more exciting," says Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
