BREAKING. Vuzu dumps Somizi Mhlongo and cancels his reality series, Raising the Bar, following alleged 'violent on-set confrontation'.

Vuzu (DStv 116) has dumped Somizi Mhlongo and cancelled what was to be his own new reality show Raising the Bar, following a serious, alleged violent confrontation between the entertainer while shooting the show.

"Vuzu has cancelled production of the recently-commissioned reality series Raising the Bar with Somizi," Vuzu tells TV with Thinus in a statement following a media enquiry.

Vuzu tells TV with Thinus the alleged violent confrontation happened "while shooting the show".

The new 10 part reality show of the flamboyant fashionista and dance choreographer was immediately scrapped by M-Net top brass.

"Vuzu does not condone violence against any individual or group," says Yolisa Phahle, the director of local general entertainment for South Africa at M-Net in a strongly-worded statement.

"Violence is a serious concern in our society and as a broadcaster we take issues of social responsibility very seriously," says Yolisa Phahle.

Somizi Mhlongo had an established relationship with M-Net's local entertainment channels.

He was the dance choreographer for Channel O's Channel O Music Video Awards in 2012 and 2013, made regular appearances on Vuzu's countdown show 10 over 10 and was roped in as choreographer by M-Net's Idols at the end of 2013.

Raising the Bar with Somizi was supposed to start on Vuzu in January, showing the life of the socialite.

In 2008 Somizi Mhlongo was found guilty of indecent assault on a man in the Randburg magistrate's court.

Somizi Mhlongo couldn't yet be reached for possible comment.
