Girl Meets World picked up by The Disney Channel as a new sitcom starting on the channel in 2014, based on the 90s Boy Meets World.

Girl Meets World is coming to The Disney Channel (DStv 303) as a girl-centred sitcom spin-off of the 90s sitcom Boy Meets World and will start on the channel in 2014.

Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, Sabrina Carpenter as her friend Maya and Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage both reprising their roles from the 90s sitcom Boy Meet World will be seen in Girls Meets World.

"Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self discovery resonated with an entire generations of tweens," says Adam Bonnett, the executive vice president of original programming for Disney Channels Worldwide. "In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in Girl Meets World and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans."

Girl Meets World will be set in New York and will this time be done from a tween girl's perspective. Her dad is now also her history teacher and Riley's mom owns a trendy afterschool hangout which specialises in pudding.

"I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favvourite audience, which has always been kids," says Michael Jacobs, the creator in a statement.

"Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular."
