The eNCA weather jackets for reporter are coming out the closet against the cool ... it's just that they're not looking ... cool.

The brand-new eNCA branded rain and weather jackets for the reporters of the eNCA (DStv 403) channel are clearly coming out of the closet as South Africa's autumn season and yes, the rainy weather, starts to kick in.

And while the jackets will help to keep the eNCA reporters warm from the cooler air and the wetness outside, the eNCA jackets don't really look very cool.

Nothing wrong with them really, its what many ordinary South Africans and people wear around the world. They just look a little bit pedestrian. They're ordinary - like what primary school kids in their millions wear over their school uniforms to keep them warm and dry.

However, when you're a TV channel or a TV news channel, you need to stand out, not just reporting the news, but looking the part. Television is a visual medium. Besides giving the news, your presentation to camera needs to pop. And yes, in winter or in cold or crazy weather, you need to visually stand out too.

You're weather jacket needs to send it's own message: I'm here, we are here, and we mean business.

If you take one look at CNN's weather jackets ... oh my word ... what's not to love? It looks like you can go explore Tibet or visit Antarctica.

eNCA executives can maybe invest in some nice weather jackets for eNCA reporters to make them look a bit less high school in bad weather and more padded up in serious parkas or some real-heavy duty weather jackets.

Reporters can wear them even when there's just a few drops outside - it sends a very strong visual message. And reporters (just like all journalists) love love love good big multi-duty jackets (because of the extra pockets of course).

Viewers don't really care whether TV reporters are cool or warm. We're so shallow. We just want them to look nice. Even when it's rainy outside.
