BREAKING. 'Now is the time for SABC to work very hard to make sure that we double our efforts,' says the acting COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

"Now is the time for SABC to work very hard to make sure that we double our efforts or we triple our efforts," said the South African public broadcaster's acting chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng at the SABC's hastily-arranged press conference this afternoon.

Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the broadcaster needs to double up its efforts since the SABC now has millions less money after it paid the bank back some.

The SABC announced that it had payed back another R416 million of the government bailout of R1,47 billion the struggling broadcaster received in 2009 when it was about to go over the cliff of financial collapse. The SABC now still owes R230 million on the government guaranteed loan to Nedbank.

At the SABC's press conference today, and as anticipated and now always expected, the SABC's limelight loving, enfant terrible Hlaudi Motsoeneng who famously doesn't have matric, was talking and sharing insights.

"We now know that we have paid R400 million. We don't have that money in the bank anymore. We need to make sure that we generate that money," said Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
