M-Net is looking for a senior researcher to investigate the telecom industry's potential entry into the TV industry in South Africa.

M-Net in Randburg is looking for a senior researcher who will be tasked with looking at and distilling the latest trends and possible future developments within all sectors of the television industry.

The senior researcher will have to have an extensive knowledge and background of the local and international TV industry, including the macro-economic forces impacting this industry currently going through massive change.

The senior researcher will have to do local and international TV industry trend analysis and will have to look at the traditional Hollywood windowing model and its continuous evolution, supplier trends, distribution trends, exhibition trends (cinema, DVD, pay TV, video-on-demand, free TV and SVOD), current and emerging TV industry business models, Hollywood, Bollywood and Nollywood as well as linear and non-linear industry and viewer trends.

The senior researcher will be tasked with doing technological trend analysis which will have to look at various delivery platforms, broadband infrstructure, connected TV, set top box (STB) development, user interface trends and even TV application trends for mobile devices.

Local and international competitor analysis with a strong focus on what is going on in sub-Saharan Africa will also form a part of this job description which will have to include a look at cinema, DVD, pay TV, free TV and the telecommunications industry and their potential entry into the TV industry in South Africa and Southern Africa.
