Al Jazeera (TopTV 401 / DStv 406) says the 24 hour global news channel is committed to Africa and South Africa and the telling of South African stories which makes a global impact - and that Al Jazeera is increasing its presence in South Africa as other broadcasters are apparently scaling back.

"As the BBC is apparently closing their Johannesburg office and relocating their Africa correspondent which was in Johannesburg to Kenia, Al Jazeera is not closing down their bureau in South Africa," Al Jazeera English commissioning editor, Jon Blair, told a packed room at the news channel's industry presentation held Monday evening in Cape Town.

South Africa and specifically Cape Town has been featured a massive 4 times on the documentary strand Witness on Al Jazeera since the beginning of 2012. In addition, Al Jazeera is currently filming a new three part documentary series Tutu's Children in Cape Town which Al Jazeera will show globally towards the end of 2012.
