You're reading it here first.

According to the SABC's latest annual report for 2010/2011 the South African public broadcaster's flagship newsbulletin, the News @ 7 on SABC3 remains under pressure with falling viewership, while current affairs TV shows on the SABC also continue to suffer viewership declines.

The isiXhosa bulletin on SABC1, ''normally on lower support levels'' (SABC newspeak language, meaning of lower viewership) than the isiZulu news, increased its Audience Rating (AR) marginally month-on-month and outperformed its rating of a year ago'' says the SABC in its latest annual report.

''The isiZulu news ''experienced precisely the opposite results'' (which means viewership dropped) compared to a year ago. The SiSwati/isiNdebele news bulletin remained flat.

On SABC2 the Afrikaans Nuus om 7 was marginally up both month-on-month and compared to levels obtained a year ago. The SeSotho news was flat and the TshiVenda/XiTsonga news continued to increase its ratings year-on-year.

SABC3's News @ 7 remained under pressure month-on-month and year-on-year.

Meanwhile the SABC's current affairs bouquet delivered mixed performances. The viewership ratings of Asikhulume, Leihlo la Sechaba, Ngula Yavutivi and Zwa Maramani improved from a year ago, while Cutting EdgeFokus and Special Assignment continued to drop.
