BREAKING. SABC workers rather want to watch DStv and their M-Net ... then make the SABC pay the bill and don't even declare it.

It must all that Real Goboza. Or maybe too much of the lovely Khumbul'Ekhaya. Turns out SABC staff don't want to watch SABC programming, they want (and are watching) their DStv.

Although the beleaguered South African public broadcaster long ago passed the point of ultimate embarrassement, the extremely embarrassing relevations continue, like the latest one that SABC staff rather want to watch M-Net and DStv - and then add insult to injury by sending their own employer the bill so that the SABC have to pay for their subscription television privileges.

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) that has been investigating corruption, fraud, unethical conduct and money wasting at the beleaguered SABC has unearthed embarrassing revelations such as SABC staff having the public broadcaster pay for their subscription television. The SABC paid R102 000 to staff for ''M-Net and DStv privileges''. This is not for, or to, SABC executives to keep an eye on the competition and programming purposes, but to staff who failed to even declare this benefit, the SIU report has found.

The SIU investigation into widespread irregularities at the South African public broadcaster is ongoing.
