BREAKING. SABC failing on the public broadcaster's digitisation targets; behind on its digital terrestrial television infrastructure upgrades.

You're reading it here first.

The SABC just admitted to parliament that it's failing to meet its self-set target for this financial year for the digitisation of the South African public broadcaster's playout, storage and archive and studio system.

The SABC told parliament's portfolio committee on communications moments ago that the public broadcaster is behind regarding its construction, implementation and delivery of digital terrestrial television infrastructure that includes the SABC's new digital playout centre, the SABC's digital library, the storage area network which is the digital area for archives, and upgrading the SABC's studio 1 and 2.

''This process on our part is underway,'' dr Ben Ngubane, SABC chairperson, told parliament, ''but we haven't really achieved the target we have set because we are in the process of finalizing the contractual issues with the service provider.''
