FIRST LOOK. The battered face of Idols contestant Freddie 'Van Dango' Moss after his violent bar brawl that left him with a broken cheekbone.

The battered face of Freddie ''Van Dango'' Moss - the damage clearly visible despite make-up - shocked viewers in Tuesday night's live Results Show on the pay broadcaster after the Idols contestant got involved in a violent bar brawl in Greenside, Johannesburg on Friday night. The damage to his face that includes a broken cheekbone and a swollen eye was clearly visible.

''After our last recording Freddie was involved in a little incident that has left him a touch battered and bruised,'' said Idols presenter ProVerb at the start of the show, making no mention of exactly what Freddie ''Van Dango'' Moss has actually been involved in over the weekend. ''I'm happy to say that he has recovered well enough to be with us this evening,'' said ProVerb.

In a statement M-Net released half an hour before the start of Tuesday's live show of Idols, M-Net said ''Freddie apologised to fans, his family, M-Net and everyone at Idols'' and that a doctor has indicated that Freddie will be able to sing in further rounds.

The pay broadcaster said Freddie went ''partying with friends'' which spiralled out of control after drinking, and that the Idols contestants have been reminded that they're regarded as role models and of the challenges that come with leading a life in the limelight. ''M-Net has reprimanded Freddie,'' said the pay broadcaster.
