BREAKING. SABC board set to convene for an emergency meeting this afternoon to discuss new crisis at broadcaster.

The SABC board is set to have an emergency meeting later this afternoon, Saturday, 22 May to discuss the massive crisis that engulfed the South African public broadcaster when SABC board chairman dr. Ben Ngubane and the SABC group CEO Solly Mokoetle unilaterally appointed Phil Molefe as the SABC's new head of news and current affairs.

The appointment needs to be made by the full SABC board who got sidelined and bypassed in the decision. I spoke to SABC board members this morning who confirmed to me that an emergency meeting has been called and set-up yesterday, that will be taking place this afternoon. I also spoke to a SABC board member as the person was about to board a plane to Johannesburg for the meeting later this afternoon.
