Psych, The X Factor USA, The Michael J. Fox Show all cancelled in America.

Psych seen in South Africa on Universal Channel (DStv 117), and The X Factor and The Michael J. Fox Show both shown on M-Net in South Africa have all cancelled in America.

Psych will end after its current 8th season.

"Psych has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy," says Chris McCumber, the president of USA Network, the TV channels the show is broadcast on in America, in a statement announcing Psych's cancellation.

"The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series' incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don't believe we've heard the last of Shawn and Gus."

The American version of The X Factor, known as The X Factor USA, is also done after three seasons with Simon Cowell returning to the United Kingdom.

"To all of us at Fox, Simon Cowell is more than one of the most prolific TV personalities of our time – he's part of our family," says Kevin Reilly, the chairman of FOX in a statement announcing the cancellation of The X Factor after dismal viewership figures for the reality show in America.

"Unfortunately, there is no The X Factor USA without Simon Cowell, but we understand and support his decision to focus on the international formats and on the next phase of his personal life."

There is no official cancellation of The Michael J. Fox Show on M-Net and no statement, but the show has immediately been pulled off the schedule from the NBC TV channel in the United States in a clear sign that it won't be back, Variety reported.

BREAKING. Psych on The Universal Channel renewed for an 8th (and possibly final) shortened season of 8 episodes.

Psych, seen in South African on The Universal Channel (DStv 117) has just been renewed for an 8th and most probably final shortened season of 8 episodes.

The new 7th season of Psych will include its 100th episode as well as a 2 hour musical episode.

Meanwhile I can report that the 6th season of Psych will start on The Universal Channel in South Africa from Tuesday 19 February at 20:00 for 16 episodes.

"Santa Barbara's favourite fauz psychic and his sidekick, played by James Roday and Dule Hill, will return with eight new episodes featuring the zany crimes, hilarious antics and a bevy of guest stars that the series has been known for since its premiere in 2006," says the USA Network in a press statement which carries Psych in America.

"Psych is one of those rarities - a show that continues to grow its fan base season after season, with exceptional storytelling, a consistently inspired cast and talented guest stars. We thought that Shawn Spencer would have seen this coming..."

Programming note: The 5th season of Psych to start on The Universal Channel on Tuesday 17 July at 20:00.

Shawn and Gus are back from Tuesday 17 July at 20:00 on The Universal Channel (DStv 108) for the 5th season of Psych.

After Shawn's relationship with Abigail ended at the end of the 4th season, Shawn is single again, but fresh potential for romance has its own oddities in store.

This season's investigations for the intrepid detective duo include drag racing, finding a Triad leader's kidnapped daughter, investigating an alien abduction, and a guest appearance by Freddie Prinze Jr. as one of Shawn's friends.

BREAKING. SABC3 is Psych-ed out. Broadcaster has no plans to continue with the show now only on The Universal Channel.

You're reading it here first.

I'm exclusively told that the funny detective comedy-drama show Psych that was shown on SABC3 is a gonner. Just like Bones the show starring James Roday as Shawn Spencer and Dule Hill as Gus won't see further seasons on SABC3.

''Psych is not on our radar anymore,'' an SABC3 executive tells me. Another SABC3 source says: ''We have not acquired a new season of Psych. It's not in our plan for the new fiscal'' - meaning 2011. What that means is that basically Psych on SABC3 is over.

That makes The Universal Channel (DStv 108) now the only place where South African viewers can see Psych, currently in its 5th season in America. I've asked The Universal Channel when a new Psych season is set to start in 2011 in South Africa but haven't yet received an answer.
