CANCELLED. Melissa & Joey done after 4 seasons, 'natural time to bring the series to a close,' says ABC in America.

The American comedy Melissa & Joey seen in South Africa on Vuzu (DStv 116) has been cancelled after 4 seasons.

"Melissa & Joey will be wrapping production on its final season this week," says  America's ABC in a statement. "The comedy will conclude its storyline at the end of the fourth season".

"We are proud of the milestones Melissa & Joey has achieved".

"Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close. We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show".

Sitcom Melissa & Joey on Wednesdays on Vuzu just renewed for a second season in America.

The brand-new sitcom Melissa & Joey that started last week on Vuzu (Wednesdays, 19:00) for a first season of 30 episodes (America is at episode 14) has just been renewed for a second season.

Melissa & Joey that marks the return of Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame and Joey Lawrence of Blossom  in a kind of new generation version of Who's the Boss?, just got picked up for a second season. Both Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence are executive producers besides being lead actors in their sitcom.

''Melissa & Joey have proven to be a comedic powerhouse, with wonderful chemistry that has resonated with viewers in the tradition of great television pairings," says Michael Riley who's president of the ABC Family channel in America, in a press statement announcing the renewal. "As our focus on comedy continues to develop, we're delighted to see it return next year as an integral part of the network's expanding slate of original series.''
