BREAKING. MultiChoice opening The Disney Channel from 8 September to DStv Extra, DStv Compact subscribers for Descendants movie.


MultiChoice is opening The Disney Channel (DStv 303) to all lower-tiered DStv Extra and DStv Compact subscribers for 20 days from 8 September to co-incide with the broadcast of the new made-for-TV movie Descendants.

The Disney Channel will be unblocked on DStv from 8 to 28 September for Descendants that will be broadcast on Friday 18 September at 17:00.

The new musical telefilm revolves around the teenage offspring of fantasy Disney villains who are all living on the Isle of the Lost.

The high schoolers attending Auradon Prep must decide whether they're going to be "bad" like their infamous parents who include Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Jafar and the Evil Queen or whether there's "good" in them.

Besides Descendants The Disney Channel is also rolling out the new third season of the telenovela Violetta from 21 September at 16:10, followed by the I Love Violetta companion show from Friday 25 September at 17:00 which is The Walt Disney Company Africa's first local South African production on the channel.

Other new Disney Channel content new premiere episodes of Jessie, Liv & Maddie, I Didn’t Do It and The Next Step as well as classic Disney movies like The Incredibles, Enchanted and The Princess Diaries.

I ♥ Violetta on The Disney Channel announces Aneequah Sulaiman, Sophie de Bruyn and Enhle Ntombela as local show's 3 presenters.


The Disney Channel (DStv 303) has announced the three local South African presenters of  Violetta as Aneequah Sulaiman, Sophie de Bruyn and Enhle Ntombela.

Aneeqah Sulaiman and Sophie de Bruyn are both 16 and both from Cape Town; Enhle Ntombela is 13 from Durban.

Following a nationwide talent search and audition process, the three will appear as the trio of presenters fronting I  Violetta as The Walt Disney Company SA's first local TV show on The Disney Channel on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform.

It will be a companion show to the Argentinian teen telenovela Violetta with Martina Stoessel which starts its third season on the channel at the end of September.

 Violetta is produced by Urban Brew Studios and will broadcast every Friday at 17:00 on The Disney Channel as a lifestyle magazine show, tied to Violetta

The presenters will discuss the various Violetta characters, do choreography and some dance moves, give fashion advice based on what the characters are wearing and talk about the issues and challenges facing the teen characters in the show.

"We'redelighted to be able to bring  Violetta, Disney's first-ever South African TV production, to local audeinces, says Deidre King, The Walt Disney Company Africa's head of marketing.

The third season of Violetta starts on 21 September at 16:10 with new episodes on weekdays.

 Violetta will start on Friday 25 September at 17:00 (with a special preview episode on 11 September at 17:00).

Urban Brew Studios producing I Love Violetta; the companion teen lifestyle show will start on 25 September on Disney Channel on DStv.


The Walt Disney Company South Africa commissioned Urban Brew Studios to produce I Love Violetta, the weekly companion series which will be broadcast in conjunction with the third season of the Disney Channel's (DStv 303) telenovela Violetta from September.

In I Love Violetta three local presenters will be talking about a wide range of topics related to Violetta.

"For a South African production company to be awarded international work is a great achievement in itself, but for that work to come from undoubtedly the biggest family brand in the world, that is an incredible milestone," says Urban Brew's Freddy Louw, executive producer of I Love Violetta.

"We're so proud that the production house's journey of 25 years in television production has finally put us on the road with Disney."

"Urban Brew Studios have experience working with broadcasters and producing a vast range of programming in different formats," says Deirdre King, the head of marketing for Walt Disney Company Africa.

"They bring all that local production knowledge, creative and technical expertise and a positive energy to their productions."

A special preview of I Love Violetta will be broadcast on the Disney Channel on Friday, 11 September at 17:00.

The third season of Violetta will start on Monday 21 September on weekdays. I Love Violetta will start on Friday 25 September with a new episode every Friday.

Disney doing its first ever local South African TV production; looking for 3 teen presenters for I ♥ Violetta as new companion show to Violetta.


Disney has decided to do its first ever local South African TV production on the Disney Channel (DStv 303) and is now looking for three TV teens to present  Violetta as a companion show to its Violetta telenovela.

Disney Africa which runs the Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform is now looking for three South African teenagers, between 13 and 18, to present a lifestyle show called ♥ Violetta which will start later this year.

Similar to SABC1's YO.TV, SABC2's Hectic Nine-9 and M-Net's former KTV youth block, ♥ Violetta will have presenters talking about a wide range of topics, mostly related to the Violetta show, for instance discussing the characters, showcasing choreography and giving fashion advice.

The new local show will do a new episode weekly and will start later this year to coincide with the new third season of Violetta on the Disney Channel and which is currently in its second season on weekdays at 16:10.

Regionalised versions of   Violetta started in October 2014 in Europe.

Wannabe presenters for  Violetta can enter at www.disney.co.za until 12 June and have to upload a photo or video to the site, after which selected entrants will be invited for a live audition in front of a judging panel in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

"Violetta continues to be embraced by audiences and we are thrilled to be partnering with local Disney fans in bringing   Violetta  to screen later this year," says Christine Service, the senior vice president and country manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa in a statement.

"We are especially excited to be able to bring a local production to the Disney Channel, a first for South Africa and an amazing opportunity to showcase the immense talent that the country offers."
