Faisal Islam leaves Sky News as political editor, joins BBC as its new economics editor.

Faisal Islam who has been the Sky News (DStv 402) political editor is leaving and joining the BBC as its new economics editor.

Faisal Islam will start at the BBC in early-2019 and from then appear on BBC World News ( (DStv 400 / StarSat 256 / Cell C black 501 / Openview 121).

"It is a great honour to be taking up this crucial role at the BBC at this critical moment in the country's economic history," says Faisal Islam in a statement from the BBC.

"Economics has been the heart of how I have viewed the rapid changes here and around the world over the past two decades - the best lens on the world. I am at heart a numbers man and I look forward to sharing the numbers stories that matter for all of the BBC's viewers, listeners and readers over the years to come".

Fran Unsworth, director of news and current affairs at the BBC, says in the statement that "Faisal has serious economic and political pedigree".

"I look forward to him being at the forefront of our reporting and presenting of economics at a critical time, working across all platforms in BBC News, documentaries and our other landmark programming."

Sky News appoints Faisal Islam as the 24-hour British TV news channel's political editor.

Sky News (DStv 402) has appointed Faisal Islam as its new political editor in the place of Adam Boulton.

Faisal Islam will take up his position later this year at Sky News and was at the United Kingdom's Channel 4 News where he is the economics editor.

Sky News will be covering the Scottish Referendum in September this year and the United Kingdom's general election in 2015.

"The political editor is one of the most important and demanding roles at Sky News. We have a long history of challenging the way politics is reported in the United Kingdom and I know Faisal Islam is keen to continue this; I am confident he will rise to the challenge," says John Ryley, the head of Sky News in a statement.
