A "connection problem" between e.tv's eNuus in Hyde Park and MultiChoice in Randburg is blamed for Wednesday evening's transmission break that saw M-Net's kykNET channels going off the air on DStv for half an hour.
On Wednesday, 26 April, viewers were shown the new title card for kykNET's "break in transmission" for the first time since kykNET relaunched its on-air imaging at the beginning of the month.
There was dead air on kykNET (DStv 144) and kykNET & Kie (DStv 145) when the live daily Afrikaans news bulletin eNuus, provided by e.tv and eNCA's Afrikaans division, was supposed to go out.
DStv subscribers watching kykNET and kykNET & Kie didn't know what was going on, on when broadcasting would resume. Subsequently there was no eNuus bulletin broadcast on Wednesday.
In response to a media enquiry about what happened, kykNET told TVwithThinus that "the 30 minute transmission break on the two kykNET channels were handled on our social media platforms".
"There was a connection problems between studios and the problem has been sorted out."
In October 2011 the whole eNCA channel went dark on DStv. eNCA - then still going by its original name of the eNews Channel, blamed MultiChoice's engineers for being unable to switch to the supposed backup system and the second redundant back-up line.
A year later I was informed by an impeccable highly placed source that it wasn't MultiChoice's fault at all.
I was told eMedia Investments allegedly failed to actually pay Neotel at the time who suspended and cut the line and is an operational failure that had nothing to do with MultiChoice at all.
