TV NEWS ROUND-UP. Today's interesting TV stories to read from TVwithThinus - 8 May 2018

Here's the latest news about TV that I read and that you should read too:

■ Your day's lovely long-read: The unavoidable Brian Stelter: CNN's media wonk doesn't want to miss a moment.

■ Femi Famutini at Herald Nigeria foams at the mouth (figuratively) in rage at MultiChoice Nigeria over not getting a signal and service from DStv Nigeria and then goes on a #fakenews bender about how South Africans decided to boycott MultiChoice and then got better service. Of course that has never happened. (He also couldn't bother to contract MultiChoice Nigeria for right of rely.)

■ John Oliver seen on M-Net (DStv 101) says "goodbye forever" after a koala Chlamydia ward is named after him in Australia.

■ Again, Nigeria: Some of the dumbest questions I've seen in a while.
Someone from The Cable in Nigeria gets the chance to interview John Ugbe, the managing director of MultiChoice Nigeria, and then asks trash like "Star Trek inspired a lot of Americans to go into science and to the moon. What does Big Brother inspire among Nigerians?" as if that's all that's being shown on DStv.

■ In 2017 pay-TV subscriptions in Kenya fell for the first time in 3 years.
Meanwhile internet subscriptions in Kenya are growing, as are people subscribing to cheaper digital terrestrial television (DTT) pay-TV services.

■ Help poor South African households and scrap the wasteful burden of the SABC TV Licence fee.

■ How much does it cost to make a TV show?

■ Don't believe these common television myths.

■ Television Turmoil in Thailand.

■ Māori Television has new leadership.

■ Princeton senior thesis: Examining strong black female leads on television.
