Reality show cancelled after contestant's death - no, not Tropika Island of Treasure Jamaica after Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead.

After broadcaster TF1 in France instantly cancelled the 16th season of the French Survivor reality television series, Koh-Lanta following a contestant's death, MTV in America is also cancelling the reality show Buckwild following the death of someone in that series, calling it totally "inappropriate" for the reality show to continue.

MTV calls the immediate cancellation of Buckwild  "not an easy decision" in a press statement, following the death of Shain Gandee. MTV said it was "not appropriate" to continue showing future episodes of the show.

MTV said the channel is "working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately".

Tropika Island of Treasure 5: Jamaica, the advertiser-funded production (AFP) on SABC1 decided to push ahead and not cancel the season but to go ahead and start showing the episodes of the current season on South African television.

Whereas both Koh-Lanta in France and Buckwild in America suffered non-violent deaths and the TV channels not willing to continue, in South Africa's Tropika Island of Treasure 5: Jamaica the person who died was killed by gunshots to the head in a violent death - yet the broadcaster felt it appropriate to continue with starting to air the show.

Contestant Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, now facing a charge of premeditated murder in a court case, three days before Tropika Island of Treasure 5: Jamaica began on SABC1.
