The South African public broadcaster says that 21 SABC staffers in total have so far tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus over the past two weeks since 20 June 2020.

The SABC has seen a rising count of staff infected with Covid-19, similar to other broadcasters, South African TV news channels like eNCA (DStv 403) and Newzroom Afrika (DStv 405), and a growing number of locally-produced South African TV series which have been forced to shut down production.

Between 20 June and 6 July 2020 the SABC had tested 65 people in total, with 5 people showing mild symptoms and 16 being asymptomatic.

According to the SABC 20 Covid-19 cases were reported at the broadcaster's Auckland Park headquarters in Johannesburg, with 1 in its Eastern Cape office.
