SABC appoints Merlin Naicker as South African public broadcaster's new TV boss.

The South African public broadcaster has appointed Merlin Naicker as its new TV boss.

Merlin Naicker is the SABC's new general executive of its television division since 1 April 2020.

Nomsa Philiso left the SABC in June 2019 after which David Makubyane, took over as acting TV boss, followed by Phathiswa Magopeni who is the broadcaster's head of news.

Merlin Naicker has a career spanning 25 years and was the CEO of Wizard Media Consulting, Southtel VOD chief content officer, headed up the failed Telkom Media's satellite pay-TV attempt, and worked for over a decade at MultiChoice in various roles.

He also worked on projects like the 2018 FIFA Russia broadcast, biometric access and CCTV monitoring projects at the SABC, as well as Parliament TV broadcast infrastructure upgrades.

Merlin Naicker has a MBA from Oxford Brookes, a B.Sc. Hons degree in digital technology, design and innovation from DIT and a certificate in advanced broadcast law from Wits Law.
