The Crimson Field cancelled by the BBC after just one season of the new British World War I drama series.

The Crimson Field, the new World War I drama from the BBC, has been cancelled after just one season.

The producers planned and expected the drama series - commissioned to coincide with the start of the BBC's World War I remembrance coverage - to last three to four years.

The drama series revolved around a group of nurses on the war front, played by Oona Chaplin, Hermione Norris and Suranne Jones, starting in 1914 - 100 hundred years ago.

"The Crimson Field was our landmark drama series that launched the start of the BBC's World War I coverage. We are very proud of The Crimson Field and are hugely grateful to all those who worked so hard on it," says the BBC in a statement, confirming the cancellation.
