MultiChoice acquires more satellite capacity on Intelsat 36 for more TV channels and services; satellite set to launch in late 2016.

MultiChoice is expanding its capacity to deliver more services, more TV channels and more high definition (HD) TV channels on its DStv satellite pay-TV service in sub-Saharan Africa and signed an agreement with Intelsat to acquire more capacity through using the new Intelsat 36 satellite.

Intelsat 36 is expected to be launched in late 2016 and will be "co-located" with Intelsat 20.

MultiChoice's group chief financial officer (CFO) Tim Jacobs says in a press release that by acquiring more capacity through Intelsat the pay-TV operator can continue to bring subscribers "new and innovative services".

"Intelsat's continued support will enable us to grow our business, providing viewers with high quality programming and compelling entertainment services," says Tim Jacobs.
