BREAKING. National Geographic reality TV star dies after a deadly snakebite and refusing treatment.


The National Geographic (DStv 181) reality TV star Jamie Coots is dead following a venomous snakebite, the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper in the United States is reporting.

Jamie Coots died after refusing medical treatment, according to the report. Pastor Jamie Coots appeared in the reality TV series Snake Salvation on National Geographic Channel.

He died on Saturday night after he was bitten during a church service where he performs snake-handling in Kentucky. He was overwhelmed by the snake venom and Jamie Coots refused any medical treatment.

In a statement National Geographic says "National Geographic joins his family, friends and community in mourning the loss of Pastor Jamie Coots".

"In following Jamie Coots for our series Snake Salvation, we were constantly struck by his devout religious convictions despite the health and legal peril he often faced"

"Those risks were always worth it to him and his congregants as a means to demonstrate their unwavering faith. We were honoured to be allowed such unique access to Jamie Coots and his congregation during the course of our show, and give context to his method of worship. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time".
